My name is Brian Lee. I've been an associate since 2009 in the litigation department at Nutter McClennen & Fish. I do a wide variety of projects – anything from research to drafting documents.
I think part of the reason why there is so much satisfaction here at Nutter is that we are provided the resources that we need to be effective attorneys.
I would say I spend at least 20 hours a week doing legal research.
My favorite feature is the way of searching ...
WestlawNext is very intuitive to use, especially for someone of my generation that grew up exploring the internet, using the search engines that are out there. And WestlawNext is much closer to that kind of searching.
WestlawNext makes me feel more productive because … I'm able to find that legal answer more quickly. I don't need to spend as much time reading cases that aren't necessary. WestlawNext is able to pull up cases that are typically the most helpful for my research project.
I like being able to input just a question or general search terms and have it pull up results the way it does. I also enjoy being able to do a broad search and then narrow it, after the search is completed, to specific jurisdictions.
Having a search pull up multiple sources, even though you're not searching for them, is useful. I'll be looking for a certain case – but then, glancing through other results, I'll see a statute or secondary source that I wouldn't have thought to search for.
If I have a certain research project, I'll create a folder for the project, pull all the cases I find, and put them in the folder. I find it convenient because I'm able to go back and reference that folder – or pass the folder along to an associate or partner who'd like to see the cases I have.
I also like the way I can use the eyeglass feature to mark cases I've read.
And I like to use the "copy with reference" feature [NOTE: "copy with reference" automatically inserts the correct citation when you copy and paste text from a case, statute, regulation, treatise, law review, or other WestlawNext search result into a document.] It saves me time having to look up the appropriate cite.

WestlawNext is a very efficient and intuitive way of doing research. You're able to find what you're looking for and finish your research more quickly and easily – and feel confident in your results.
Being more efficient when you're doing research is beneficial, because when you're able to give an answer more quickly, everyone's happy. Partners are happy. Clients are happy. And you're able to take on more work, so everyone benefits.
WestlawNext helps me better serve my clients because it helps me be more efficient.
