My name is Jennifer Meger. I'm the research librarian at Goulston & Storrs. We do a lot of research into products and try to find exactly the best fit for what will work for our attorneys, and get the most cost-effective, efficient tools that we can use to get the clients the answers that they need as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. We run a small ship, but that just means that we have to be extra efficient, and we have to really be on the lookout for all the products that will make our job easier.
Our Westlaw rep came to us to do a presentation and demonstration of WestlawNext, and we were blown away from the start. The folders, the annotations, and highlights, all of that extra value that's been added with the technology and advances were just exactly what we needed to get our jobs done much more efficiently than before.

I know as a librarian I was a little apprehensive at first just because I'm wary of anything that promises to make everything super easy, but I was pleasantly surprised that even if you're looking for a needle in a haystack you can still really hone in and get to exactly what you need without having to search in 50 different databases to get to your answer. The fact that you can just do one search and have everything, and then go through your results makes legal research so much easier than it was before.
WestlawNext does provide our associates with the confidence that they have completed their research as efficiently and completely as possible. I think that in the past, there may have been some worry that they had not come to the very end of their research. Or, that they may have missed a case and probably spent too much time trying to cover all their bases and making sure that they had finished everything. Now with WestlawNext, they know that they're getting all of their results. When they come to the end of their research, they can be sure that they're at the end. And they don't have to take extra time just to double check or to think "What database did I miss? What source might I not have checked?" And I think WestlawNext takes care of that anxiety and really eliminates it.
I love sharing the folders. Sharing the folders cuts down on the need to e-mail, and the need to print out a stack of 50 cases, bring them to someone's office, and then realize that you don't have a copy for yourself, and you've just handed off your three hours of research to somebody without being able to call it back for yourself. So having the folders is a great boon to legal research. I'm starting to wonder how I ever lived without them to begin with.
